The Party

Well, surviving year one of Isla was reason to celebrate. My mom and dad came in town the weekend of Isla's birthday party. I planned this because I had my heart set on making pink cherry cupcakes, and knew I couldn't pull this off without enlisting the help of mom. She was a good sport because "cupcake day" was actually mom's birthday- March 18th. We treated her to some Mexican fare and margaritas after the long day of baking. Above is a photo of Gma and Gpa with Isla at the zoo. Below are the beautiful cupcakes- a work of art!

You can see more of Isla's birthday party on Flickr. But here is a photo of Isla and her bestie, Sloan, sliding on the moonbounce.

The girls are back

Last weekend my 4 friends from high school did a repeat Reunion in San Antonio. This year, Megan did not miss. We had Jenny and Liz (yes, Liz came back) from Chicago, Megan from DC, and Katy from Florida. Now, this weekend was originally planned for April, but got moved up because both Jenny and Liz having babies due early June! So, there were several little tiny people in tow.
Me and my drinking buddy, Katy, drank enough margaritas for all. I had to show them the new Riverwalk Extension, and we braved the riverboat taxies for the first time so that we could ride in the lock and dam. It was very exciting. Luckily Megan did not request to see the Alamo.

On Sunday they were all here for Isla's 1st birthday. We all sang to her and watched her smash cake into her face.

Isla Rose, 1 year old!

Our little Isla turned one yesterday. She is getting to be such a big girl. Soon after the 11 month mark she started to take some steps. Now she is toddling around like a drunken sailor. If she wants to get somewhere fast, she drops down and crawls. But she's very entertained by her walking practice all day.
She is doing more and more of the signs we've been teaching her. She does "more" and "milk" and "bird" and just today "bubbles." She can point to her ears, and sometimes to her toes. Even though she still has only 2 bottom teeth, she can eat like a champ, and figured out how to bite crackers with those toofers. She is babbling up a storm. She is very inquisitive right now and points to things and asks, "Dat?" Isla is still a huge fan of opening and closing doors. Right now her favorite book is "Dear Zoo." On each page there is a new little "door" to open that reveals a new animal.
Isla has been so much fun and has a sweet and magical personality. She is strong willed and silly. Isla is usually cautious. In a crowd, Isla will quietly observe and stay close to home base (my lap) before she ventures off to join the activity. She has a keen sense of her personal space, and gets upset when it is invaded. She is still a little motor girl and likes to practice her latest skill. Right now she likes to try and go up and down stairs like a big girl, and if there is a rail she can reach on each side she goes up and down, up and down, up and down... I am mesmerized by her cuteness... and those dimples, Isla has dimples for days. Stay tuned, as Isla turns from a baby into a little girl.

Trip to Mexico

After Liz and her family left, I had one day to pack for our vacation trip. We made our 4th airplane trip with Isla last week to Mazatlan, Mexico. Jason's cousin, Josh, got married in a town a few hours from Mazatlan, and so we made a vacation out of it. We arrived a few days ahead of the rest of the family to have a break before the weekend of car traveling. Isla liked the sand, and got really excited and exclaimed "ah! dat!" when she saw the ocean.

She enjoyed swimming in the pool and thought it was fun to wave at everyone she saw. It was like she thought she was riding around on a parade float.

She also got to spend a lot of quality time with Grandma and Grandpa Seats.

Congratulations, Josh and Paola!
